In order to provide access to commercial buildings that due
to building construction limitations and other factors would
prove impossible to install a full commercial elevator, a special
code classification of elevators was developed by ASME
'The American Society of Engineers'. ASME is the national
governing body responsible for elevator manufacturing and
installation codes and standards throughout the United States.
ASME A 17.1 section 5.2 and 2.1 explain the requirements for a
LU/LA or 'Limited Use, Limited Access' classification 'A power
passenger elevator in which the use and application are limited
by size, capacity, speed and rise'.
These limitations as stated in the code are:
The benefits of choosing a LU/LA are:
Florlift offers a wide variety of LU/LA compliant elevator packages,
which have many of the same options and upgrades as our commercial.
These low cost elevators can be a solution to builders, architects
and engineers for their projects. Please contact us to see if a
Florlift LU/LA elevator will suit your needs. The LU/LA elevator is
a special purpose passenger elevator used infrequently, and which
is exempt from many commercial regulations and accommodations.
For example, a LU/LA potentially may not necessarily be handicapped
accessible, and there might only be room for a single standing passenger.
